Nikon D2H

I picked up a Nikon D2H two weeks ago as an upgrade to my D70. I'm rather impressed with the handling and autofocus of the D2H. I had much more success taking flight photos at the Bosque Del Apache compared to the D70.

I've uploaded some photos.

A visitor on our lawn

Despite its scientific name of Geococcyx californianus, the road runner is our state bird. While it's not unusual to see them around our neighborhood, they are very skittish and I've never seen one sitting before today. Fortunately, there was time to grab my camera and a few photographs.

Focus test results

I've tested the autofocus on the Nikon D2X and D2Hs at 8 inches. I've found problems with the autofocus on the lower left and lower right reticules. I've posted result pages for the D2X and D2Hs.

I'll be contact Nikon about adjusting the AF of these cameras.

Back to the Bosque

I'm glad to have had a chance to go back to the Bosque del Apache this week, this time with a 500mm f/4 AFSII lens that Santa kindly delivered.

Ant Eye

I took some test shots today with the 105mm f/2.8 VR micro lens. One thing I like about macro photography is that is show information that is unnoticible to naked eyes.

More tests of the 105VR

I decied to test the nano crystal coating to test colors and contrast shooting into the light.

Carlsbad Caverns

Last week the kids were on autumn school break so we took a quick trip to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Of all the caves we've visited, Carlsbad is certainly the most impressive. Fortunately, it wasn't a busy time of year, so I could pause and do some cave photography. I used the D2X and 17-35/2.8 with one strobe on the camera and sometimes another SB-800 hand-held and manually fired. Average exposure was ISO 100, f/8 at 20 seconds.
